Phyllis J. Gubser, Sun City, Ariz.

A memorial service for Phyllis J. Gubser, 66, Sun City, Ariz., who died Oct. 22 of heart disease in Sun City, will be held at the Presbyterian Church in Earlham on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 1:30 p.m.

Born Sept. 15, 1921 in Red Oak, she was the daughter of Nels and Mabel Westerlund. She was married to Welby "Bill" Marvel Apple in 1944. They had four children. Mr. Apple died in 1951. She was married to Dr. D. E. Gubser of Earlham in March of 1964. He died in December of 1980.

Survivors include sons, Larry B. Apple of Maryville, Mo., Robert K. Apple of Earlham and William B. Apple of Urbandale; a daughter, Barbara J. Nevitt of Perry; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Marnie Harris of Jefferson and a brother, Ross Westerlund of Wisconsin.

Memorial services were held in Sun City on Monday, Oct. 26. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.

Phyllis J. Gubser was born September 15, 1921, in Red Oak, Iowa, to Nels Falke and Mable Focht Westerlund. She married Welby (Bill) Marvel Apple, Jr., in 1944, and they had four children. Bill Apple was killed while in the service of the United States Air Force in 1951. Phyllis raised four children in Des Moines, Iowa, alone from 1951 until 1964 when she married Dr. D. E. Gubser of Earlham, Iowa. Doc passed away after moving to Sun City, Arizona in 1980. Phyllis passed away October 22, 1987, of heart disease in Sun City, Arizona.

Survivors include her four children, Larry B. Apple of Maryville, Missouri, Robert Kirk Apple of Earlham, Iowa, Barbara J. Nevitt of Perry, Iowa, and William B. Apple of Urbandale, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, two step-daughters, Darcey Paullin and Sherry Joiner, a sister, Marnie Harris of Jefferson, Iowa, and a brother, Ross Westerlund of Hales Corner, Wisconsin.

Memorial services were held in Sun City, Arizona, on October 26, 1987.

Memorial services were held Thursday, October 29, 1987 at the Presbyterian Church, Earlham, Iowa with Reverend Andrew J. Bosman officiating. Organ music was provided by Gretchen Brittain. Private interment services were conducted.
