JENNIE GRULKE DIED THURSDAY

Mrs. Herman C. Grulke of Winterset died Thursday, Oct. 30, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. She was 92 years of age.

Mrs. Grulke had been a resident of Madison county since 1913. She was the former Jennie Painter, daughter of Lewis and Mary Whitcomb Painter, and was born in Pottawattomie county on April 27, 1877. She was married near Lewis, Ia., in 1908, to Herman C. Grulke. They came to Madison county in 1913 and farmed in Union township until 1966, when they moved into Winterset. Mr. Grulke died July 9, 1969.

She attended Iowa State Teachers college at Cedar Falls and taught school for 12 years at Griswold. She had united with the Church of Christ at the age of 17 years.

Surviving are a son, Eldon Grulke and a daughter, Lydia Grulke, both of Winterset, and two grand nephews and two grand nieces whom they reared in their home: Lucian Leonard of Springfield, Mo., Harry F. Leonard of San Francisco, Calif., and Ruby Parker and Lorraine Brittain, both of Des Moines. She also leaves 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. E. E. Jandebeur, pastor of the First Christian church here. Burial was made in Oakwood cemetery at Lewis.
