Esther W. Grouell, Des Moines

Esther W. Grouell, 91, died of heart failure Nov. 18, 1999 at Wesley Acres in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 22, at Dunn's Funeral Home in Des Moines. Burial was at Earlham Cemetery.

Esther Grouell was born Feb. 4, 1908 to Harry D. and Julia (Wilhelm) Grouell of Ida Grove. She was a graduate of Winterset High School and the University of Northern Iowa. A resident of Des Moines since 1945, she also had resided in Clarinda, Waverly, Winfield, Armour, S.D., and Madison County. Esther retired from teaching in the Des Moines Public School System in 1973. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Des Moines Retired Teachers' Association, Beta Sigma Phi, Des Moines Women's Club and Delta Kappa Gamma.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.

She is survived by a cousin, Persis Grouell Coulter.
