September 2, 1953Mrs. Richard Griswold, a resident of the Winterset and Macksburg communities most of her life, died Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Story county hospital in Nevada. She had been in failing health for several months, and underwent major surgery just a month ago.
Mrs. Griswold was 64 years of age. She was the former Sylvia May McLarnand, daughter of Joseph and Candace McLarnand. She was born near Winterset March 8, 1889.
She attended the Winterset high school and taught in the rural schools of Madison county as a young woman. She united with the Winterset Church of Christ early in life, later transferring to the Seventh Day Adventist church.
On Jan. 15, 1911, she was married to Richard Griswold of Macksburg, who survives her. They were the parents of four children, all now living. They are: Mrs. Cleatice Priddy of Nevada, Mrs. Veda Pullan of Galt, Calif., Mrs. Reva Ford of Mission, Kan., and Mrs. Mary Hoyt of Nevada. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Leila Fuson of Des Moines; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Macksburg Methodist church, with Elder Russell Hagen of Des Moines in charge, assisted by the Rev. Clement Rowe of Macksburg. Burial was made in the Kivett cemetery northwest of Macksburg.
