Lloyd E. Gripp, 85, of Lehigh, died Nov. 7, 2004 at the Southfield Wellness Community in Webster City.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 11, at Foster Funeral Home with the Rev. Jenna Zirbel officiating. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery in rural Stratford.

Lloyd Gripp was born Sept. 5, 1919 to Harvey and Hattie (Heath) Gripp of St. Charles. He received his education in the St. Charles School District, graduating in 1937. He worked for a Ford dealership and also was owner/operator of a service station in St. Charles. During World War II, he served in the South Pacific with the United States Army-Infantry, 7th Division. Following his discharge, Lloyd worked in Des Moines for the Green GMC Truck Garage and as service manager for Paul Manning Chevrolet. He later owned Service Chevrolet in Fayette and Lauderbach Chevrolet in Perry.

On June 4, 1950, he married Esther Genevieve Barr at the Homer United Methodist Church. In 1958, he started farming near Lehigh, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Homer United Methodist Church, St. Charles Masonic Lodge (50 years), Stratford American Legion, and Boone Valley Izaak Walton League. He also was a charter member of the Professional Farmers of America.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Gripp.

He is survived by his wife, Esther, of Lehigh; one son, Lee Gripp of Webster City; two sisters, Lola Bennington of Winterset and Dorris Reed of Osceola; and one granddaughter.
