William "Bill" E. Green, 71, of Truro died of a heart ailment Dec. 29, 2000, at Metropolitan Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001) at 11 a.m. at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Truro with the Rev. Richard Harbart officiating. Burial was at Young Cemetery, Truro.
Bill Green was born Dec. 18, 1929 in Polk County to Archie Ernest and Myrtle (Nichols) Green. A 1949 graduate of Truro High School, he married Betty Cumings on June 12, 1955 in Martensdale. A lifetime resident of the Truro community, Bill had been the owner and operator of Green's Service Station in Truro. He was a member of the Lions Club, Truro Volunteer Fire Department, Congregational United Church of Christ and had served on the Truro City Council.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Lynne Weltzheimer (husband David) of Manson, Lisa Samson (husband Chris) of Des Moines and LuAnn Chambers (husband Deano) of Lakeland, Fla.; a brother, John Green of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister-in-law, Betty Ann Green of Osceola; five grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Congregational United Church of Christ in Truro or the Truro Public Library.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Kale Funeral Homes in Osceola and Truro.
