VERNE F. GOELDNER

Funeral services were held for Verne F. Goeldner, 72, Wednesday, March 19, 1980, at Asbury United Methodist Church at Webster City, Iowa.

He was the son of Louis J. and Dora M. Goeldner born September 25, 1907 in West Lancaster Township, Keokuk County, near Sigourney, Iowa. Later his parents moved to Creston where he attended school from kindergarten through Junior College. He later attended Iowa State University.

He came to Earlham in 1934 and worked in the Echo office until 1939. On June 16, 1940 he was married to Laura Ridge, who was a teacher in Earlham High School at that time.

Verne entered the service during World War II, seeing action in Europe as a member of the 28th Infantry Division, which fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. He was awarded the Bronze Star in that battle.

After his discharge, he and his family resided in Osceola where he worked as a printer in the newspaper there. He bought the Ellsworth newspaper which he published for a time, later moving to Webster City where he was employed as plant manager at Hahne Printing Co., until his retirement in 1974.

He is survived by his wife, Laura; one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Kilgore of Spokane, Washington; and one son, George of Webster City; one grandson, Rodney Kilgore; two brothers, Melvin of Osceola and Leslie of Earlham.

Those from Earlham attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Les Goeldner, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Mills, Russell Ralston, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Williamson and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Brittain. Others attending were Marilyn Goeldner of Osceola and Mrs. Louise Strohman of Chariton.
