G. R. "Jerry" Glasscock, 89 of Winterset died of pneumonia and cancer Dec. 29, 2001, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with Pastors Robert Barrick and Erick Gunter officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.
Jerry Glasscock was born Oct. 7, 1912 to Harvey W. and Lottie Grace (Herrick) Glasscock of Stuart. He married Emma Darlene Chickering on Nov. 24, 1937 at Trinity Methodist in Des Moines.
He had worked for Penn Electric Switch Company from 1937 to 1950 and was part owner of C & G. Appliance Store in Winterset until his retirement in 1980. Jerry was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club (past president and member since 1952), Madison County Historical Society and First United Methodist Church (where he had held various offices) and had served two terms as a councilman on the Winterset City Council. He also belonged to several bridge clubs and a senior citizens' bowling team. He had been a resident of Winterset since 1950, coming from Goshen, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
His is survived by his wife, Darlene of Winterset; two sons, Larry Glasscock (wife Becky) of La Grange,Ill. and Dennis Glasscock (wife Rhonda) of Amarillo, Texas; a daughter, Beverlie Ayoub (husband Dr. M.M. Ayoub) of Lubbock, Texas; a brother, Dale Glasscock of Spooner, Wis.; two sisters, Freda White of Marshalltown and Maxine Ellis of Stuart; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the First United Methodist Church or Middle River Hospice.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset.
