Services for Otto Elden Gilliland, who died Feb. 7 at Madison County Memorial Hospital at the age of 86, were held Tuesday, Feb. 10 at the First Baptist Church in Winterset.
Mr. Gilliland was born June 21, 1894 in Somerset, Kentucky. His parents were Leander Lee Gilliland and Elizabeth Ann Goff.
He was married to Sylvia A. Frampton at Council Bluffs, Iowa on Nov. 20, 1923. Six children were born of the union.
A farmer, he spent most of his life in the St. Charles area, moving to Winterset in 1972.
Mr. Gilliland was a member of the First Baptist Church and a 50-year member of Model Lodge No. 315 AF & AM of the Masonic Order of St. Charles.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; two sons: Marion Gilliland, West Des Moines, and Edward Gilliland, Liberty, Mo.; four daughters: Audrey Smith, Indianola; Anna Martin, St. Charles; Dolores Oglesbee, Broomfield, Colo.; and Darlene McKinney, West Des Moines.
Also surviving is a sister, Elizabeth Schutt, Woodriver, Neb.; and 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.
