KITTIE GIFFEN OF WINTERSET DIES

At 95 Years, One of Oldest Residents of This Community

Mrs. Kittie M. Giffen of Winterset, a life-time resident of this community, died Monday, Dec. 23 at Memorial hospital here. At 95 years of age, she was one of the oldest residents of Winterset.

Mrs. Giffen was born in Winterset Oct. 6, 1868. She was the former Kittie Madeline Shannon, daughter of Joseph and Rachel Guiberson Shannon. As a young women she taught school for 17 years, and later served as assistant postmistress here for 11 years.

She was married Jan. 3, 1917 at Winterset to L. Low. His death occurred in 1930. On Dec. 16, 1934, she was married to Mathew Giffen. He also preceded her in death in 1942.

She was a member of the P.E.O. lodge at Winterset and of the First United Presbyterian church.

Mrs. Giffen leaves no immediate family. There were no children; and her sister, Mrs. Bessie Schwaner, died in 1957.

Funeral services were to be held this Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. from the Wilson Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. John E. Fink, pastor of the First United Presbyterian church of Winterset. Burial was to be made in the Winterset cemetery.
