Winterset Madisonian - May 15, 1946

Van Meter--(Special) Mrs. Frank H. Clearwater, a resident of this community since infancy, died at her home here May 2 after an illness of several months. She was 72 years of age.

Mrs. Clearwater was the former Anna May Earp, daughter of Francis M. and Melvina Earp, and was born Jan. 19, 1874, in Monmouth, Ill. When but a few weeks old she came with her parents, in a covered wagon, to Iowa. They settled in Madison county where she spent her early life.

On Feb. 18, 1892, she was married to Frank H. Clearwater. They were the parents of six children, one son dying in infancy.

Mrs. Clearwater's entire life was spent in Madison and Dallas counties. The family had lived in Van Meter since 1923. She and her husband celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary here in 1942.

She is survived by her husband; four daughters, Mrs. Fern Burgess of Oskaloosa, Mrs. Mabel Forret of Van Meter; Mrs. Corbel Beasley of Marshalltown, and Mrs. Thelma Brookens of Oakland, Calif.; a son, George Clearwater of Des Moines; a brother, Joe Earp of Redfield; 10 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held May 5 from the United Brethren church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. William Suckow. Burial was made in the Van Meter cemetery.
