Burial Here For Louis Gavitt Jr.

Louis W. "Bill" Gavitt Jr. of Cedar Rapids died Sunday, Oct. 5 at the Americana Health Care Center in Cedar Rapids at the age of 55.

Born on May 4, 1925, in Ashaway, R.I., he was united in marriage to Jane Morrissey on Oct. 16, 1971 in Winterset. She preceded him in death on June 22, 1977.

Mr. Gavitt was employed by the post office in Cedar Rapids and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marion. An army veteran of World War II, he was also a member of the Cedar Rapids Postal Workers Union.

Surviving are two children, Louis W. Gavitt III and Sarah J. Gavitt, who both make their home with their aunt, Jean A. Morrissey of Fort Dodge; a brother, Kenneth W. Gavitt of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Louise Wilson of Cedar Grove N.J. and Janet Weinreich of Wakefield, R.I.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marion with burial at the Winterset Cemetery.
