Services for Vera Rose Berg, 73, Winterset, who died May 24 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital, were held Tuesday, May 28, at the St. Charles Parish Church, St. Charles, with the Rev. Chester Waterman officiating. Burial was at the Blair Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 31, 1911 at Maynard, Minn., the daughter of Parley and Rose Stone Banks. She grew up there and was married Nov. 22, 1933 to Melvin Berg at Randall, Iowa. They had four children.

She had lived in Winterset the past eight and a half years and prior to that lived in St. Charles.

Survivors include her husband; sons, Melvin D. of Oceanside, Calif., James of Kennewick, Wash., and Kenneth and wife Judy of Orange, Calif.; a daughter, Sandra Piper and husband James of Kennewick; eight grandchildren; sisters, Irene Durbala of Peoria, Ill., Dorothy Estey of Des Moines, Betty Dammerville of Des Moines, and Agnes Ordahl of St. Charles, and a brother, Wayne Banks of Kenosha, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

Vera Rose Berg was born October 31, 1911 at Maynard, Minnesota, the daughter of Parley and Rose Stone Banks. She passed away Friday, May 24, 1985 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset, Iowa at the age of 73 years, six months and 23 days.

She received her education in the Maynard, Minnesota Schools and on November 22, 1933 was united in marriage to Melvin Berg at Randall, Iowa. To this union four children were born: Melvin B., James, Sandra and Kenneth.

Melvin and Vera had made their home in Winterset for the past eight and one-half years. Prior to that they lived in St. Charles. Vera was always a generous person with her companionship and hospitality, she was always ready for a cup of coffee with her friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Harvey, Virgil and V. R. “Frank” Banks.

She leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Melvin of Winterset; sons, Melvin B. Berg of Oceanside, California, James D. Berg and wife, Patsy of Kennewick, Washington; and Kenneth D. Berg and wife, Judy of Orange, California; daughter, Sandra L. Piper and husband of Kennewick, Washington; eight grandchildren; four sisters, Irene Durbala of Peoria, Illinois, Dorothy Estey of Des Moines, Betty Damerville of Des Moines, and Agnes Ordahl of St. Charles; one brother, Wayne Banks of Kenosha, Wisconsin; two sisters-in-law, Mabel Banks of St. Charles and Phyllis Banks of Wahpeton, North Dakota; as well as other relatives and a host of friends.

Services were held at the St. Charles Parish Church at St. Charles on Tuesday, May 28 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Chester Waterman officiating. Burial was at Blair Cemetery in Madison County, Iowa.
