Verlie Mae Garrett, Des Moines

Services for Verlie Mae Garrett, 96, Des Moines, who died May 12 at the Hillhaven Convalescent Center in Des Moines, where she resided, were held at the Macksburg United Methodist Church on Friday, May 15 with the Rev. Jim Orris and the Rev. Charlie Morrow officiating. Burial was at the Moon Cemetery.

Born in Madison County on Dec. 8, 1890, she was the daughter of Samuel and Mary McKinzie Bonham. She married Charles F. Garrett on Feb. 12, 1911 at Macksburg and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the IOOF, the WRC and the Grand River Needlecraft Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Geri White of Des Moines; a sister, Stella Meehan of Mason City; and a grandchild, Dee Fisher of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son, a brother, a sister and a great-grandchild.

VERLIE GARRETT

Verlie Garrett, 96, of Hillhaven Convalescent Center, 233 University Ave., died of pneumonia Tuesday at home. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Macksburg United Methodist Church in Macksburg. Burial will be in Moon Cemetery there.

Mrs. Garrett was born in Madison County. She had been a homemaker and was a member of IOOF Women’s Relief Corps and Grandriver Needle Craft Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Geraldine “Geri” White of Des Moines; a sister, Stella Meehan of Mason City; and a grandchild.

Friends may call prior to the service at the church.

Collins Funeral Home in Winterset is handling arrangements.
