Mary Ann Sumner, 79, of Urbandale died June 15, 2006, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 19, at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with the Rev. Sandy Smith officiating. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery.
Mary Ann Sumner was born May 29, 1927, to Carl Forrest and Wilma Clarine (Kinnaird) Downs of St. Charles. Following graduation from St. Charles High School in 1945, she began working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, which later became US West. Mary Ann retired in 1983 after 37 years of service. A longtime resident of the Des Moines area, she was a member of Communications Workers of America and a life member of Telephone Pioneers of America.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Joy Scrivner.
She is survived by two brothers, Charles Downs and Larry Downs, both of St. Charles.
