Services for Thomas Pettit, 59, rural Winterset, who died at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines on Dec. 30, 1983, were held Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 1:30 p.m. at the Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Sharp officiating. Burial was at the Peru Cemetery.
Born in Clarke County, he was the son of Jacob and Vella Iiams Pettit. He spent most of his life in Madison County and was a farmer and self-employed trucker.
On Mar. 2, 1944, he married Dorothy Mabbitt in Madison County.
She survives along with sons, Richard of Fondulac, Wis., and Harry of Winterset; daughter, Barbara Ann Baker of Winterset; brothers, Lilbert and Sammy, both of Winterset; a sister, Alta Schaefer of Davenport; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
