Winterset Madisonian - March 8, 1922

Wesley Pierce Love, the second son of John Dayton and Phoebe C. Love, was born Jan. 31, 1853 at Knoxville, Ill., and departed this life at his home in Macksburg, Feb. 24, 1922, aged 69 years and 24 days.

At the age of 9 years, he came with his parents to Union county, Iowa, and later to Madison county, where he grew to manhood. He was married on Dec. 22, 1878, to Mary Elizabeth Rowe. To this union were born six children: Clyde W., Mrs. Frank Ross, Eugene, Clarence M., all of Macksburg; Mrs. R. H. Williams of Fontanelle, and Ethel, deceased.

Fifty years ago, with his parents, he located in Macksburg, where they entered mercantile business. Mr. Love, with his kind, congenial manner, his obliging way, made friends with all he met. It may be well said for that for 50 successive years in business life in one place, he drew his customers to him in respect.

He was one of the charter members of the Masonic lodge and later transferred his membership to the Lorimor lodge.

He is survived by his wife, five children, nine grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Jane Greer of Wodston, Kans.; and Mrs. Hulda Atherton of Silverdale, Wash.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. M. Hulbert, assisted by the worshipful master of Lorimor lodge, Thomas Beaumont of Creston. Burial took place in the Moon cemetery.
