Obituary

DENISON HAROLD CRAWFORD

Denison Harold Crawford, known as Pete to his many friends, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 1971, in the Dexter Clinic at the age of 64 years, 11 months and 8 days. He was the son of Denison Valandingham and Lillie Jordan Crawford, born February 4, 1906, on the Crawford homestead south of Earlham. He had lived all of his life on the Crawford farm with the exception of the first twelve years of his marriage. Those years were spent in the Dexter community.

He was a 1923 graduate of Earlham high school, and he enjoyed attending the class reunion at the Earlham Centennial. Fellowship with his former classmates was a highlight for him.

In his early manhood, his greatest enjoyment was in the raising and showing of Spotted Poland China champion hogs at the various state fairs throughout the Midwest. Later, his interest turned to Brown Swiss cattle and dairying for which he was well-known.

On March 10, 1935, he was united in marriage to Juanita Armstrong in her parents’ home in Dexter. To this union were born four children – Karen, Ruth, Carol and Denny.

He was an active member of the Worthington United Methodist church.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ruth Chestnutwood; a brother John; and very recently by a son-in-law, Camiel Fontenoy.

Surviving are his widow and son Denny at home; Mr. and Mrs. Peter Hendrickson of Alamogordo, New Mexico; Mr. and Mrs. Allen Childers of Tama; Mrs. Carol Fontenoy of Silvis, Illinois; one beloved granddaughter, Michelle Childers, and one brother Ross of Winterset; three nieces and three nephews and a host of friends.
