Former Resident Buried at Menlo

Edith C. Henkle Fritz, daughter of Simeon W. and Melissa Shipman Henkle, was born on October 11, 1874 in Winterset and died March 29, 1974 at the hospital in Perry, Iowa.

Mrs. Fritz spent the early years of her life in Winterset where her father was engaged in the harness business and she attended school at North Ward School. At age of twelve she moved with her family to a farm in Madison County.

On February 22, 1898, she was united in marriage to Clarence R. Fritz and they made their home on the parental Fritz farm south of Worthington, where six of their seven children were born. They moved to a farm in Adair County in 1910, which was their home until 1931. A year later she moved to Menlo.

She was an active member of the Menlo Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband and also by three brothers, Bert, Simeon and George Henkle and one sister, Mrs. Tom (Vennie) Laidley.

She is survived by one sister, Maude Herrell, four sons and three daughters; Charles and Marion Fritz; Ruby Dickson, Fred Fritz, Esther Varley, Helen Collins, LeRoy Fritz and Donald Fritz. Also 22 grandchildren, 63 great grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren survive her.

Funeral services were held at the Menlo Methodist Church on April 1, with interment in Menlo Cemetery.
