Mary Frey, Knoxville

Mary Bell Frey, 89, of Knoxville died March 26, 2003 at Knoxville Area Community Hospital.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 31, at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville with the Rev. Peter J. Peterson officiating. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery.

Mary Frey was born Feb. 27, 1914 to Walter and Virginia (Bell) Browne of rural St. Charles. She was a 1931 graduate of St. Charles High School. On March 10, 1934, she was united in marriage to Harold Edwin Frey. They farmed in the St. Charles, Patterson and Winterset areas for several years. In 1938, they moved to Pleasantville where they also farmed. Mary retired in 1977 from the office of the Marion County Treasurer following 22 years as a deputy treasurer in the motor vehicle department. In 1977, she and her husband moved south of Knoxville. She was a member of the St. Charles United Methodist Church and Good Sams Camping Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son in infancy, Philip Roger; and a daughter, Linda Lee.

She is survived by two sons, Dean Frey of North Liberty and Don Frey of Knoxville; a daughter, Edwina Baker of Florissant, Colo.; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grand-children
