Lyle Merton Whitworth, 92, of 301 W. Jefferson, Winterset, died Sunday, December 10, 1978, at Madison County Memorial Hospital.
The son of Morley and Phoebe Ballard Whitworth, he was born October 17, 1886 at Macksburg. In June of 1912 he graduated from Simpson College with a degree in business administration. For 40 years he was employed by State Farm Mutual Insurance Company.
On June 6, 1912, he married Mary Edith Brown. He farmed until his retirement in 1971 at the age of 85. He was a member of the Macksburg Methodist Church and Farm Bureau.
Surviving are his two sons, Arthur B. of Winterset and Milford L. of Logan, Utah; nine grandchildren; and four great granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary in 1975, his parents and a granddaughter.
Services were held at 1:00, Wednesday, December 13, at the Macksburg Methodist Church. Burial was made at Moon Cemetery. Rev. John Ackerman and grandson Rev. Dennis A. Whitworth officiated.
