George J. Adkins, former Winterset poultry dealer, who had operated the Pitzer store for 20 years, died at Dexter last Wednesday, June 1. He was 75 years of age.
Mr. Adkins was a life-long resident of the county. He was born here April 10, 1880, a son of James and Josephine Hetzler Adkins. He was married May 8, 1902, to Effie M. Armbrest, and they were parents of three children, all of whom survive their father. The wife and mother died in 1935.
Mr. Adkins engaged in the poultry business in Winterset for many years. Since 1935, he had been associated with his son, Fred, in the operation of the store at Pitzer.
Surviving are his three children, James Adkins of Dexter, Fred Adkins of Pitzer, and Mrs. Rose McDonald of Phoenix, Ariz. He also leaves eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held last Friday from Richards Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. Robert Franklin. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
