Earlham Echo - December 1956

Peter Martin Petersen, son of Mathias and Batilda Petersen was born in Dallas County, Iowa on October 18, 1881.

He received his education in the rural schools, and grew to manhood on a farm in Penn township, and was baptized and confirmed in Lutheran Zion church in Dexter, when about 14 years old.

On April 17th, 1928 he was married to Blanche Ellen Addy and they were the parents of two sons, Harry Edwin, and Richard LeRoy.

Pete, as he was familiarly called, followed the business of farming at different times especially enjoying caring for young livestock, but his chief work was with machinery. He operated threshing machines in this community and for a time was employed as a mechanic in Gilmore City, Iowa.

In 1928 he went to the Marquette Cement Company at Earlham, and remained with them till 1950 when he retired. Pete was a conscientious workman, and well liked by his fellow workers and neighbors whom he seldom criticised.

After his retirement his health failed, and for many months he was confined to his home by sickness, but he did not complain.

He was grateful for, and proud of his family and of his home which he maintained in Earlham from the time of his marriage till his death on December 9th, 1956 at the age of 75 years, one month and 22 days.

Pete Petersen was an intelligent, quiet, retiring man, yet he made many friends, and we who knew him well, recognized his many good qualities, and knew the kindness of his heart.

Surviving are his faithful wife, Blanch, who with his one remaining brother, Fred, so gently cared for him through his months of much suffering. He also leaves two fine sons, Harry of Des Moines, and Richard at home who will always miss him. One sister, Amanda of Chicago remains, one daughter-in-law, Jackie, several nephews and nieces and many friends.

Burial was in Earlham Cemetery.
