Sharon Lee Fitzgerald, Truro

Sharon Lee Fitzgerald, 54, of Truro, died of cancer June 4, 1998 at Des Moines General Hospital.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 6, at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Truro with the Rev. Richard Harbart of De Moines officiating. Burial was at Field Cemetery in Clarke County.

Sharon Fitzgerald was born April 23, 1944, near St. Marys, Iowa, to Frank Lee and Helen Bea (Blackford) Oberender. She wa a 1962 graduate of Truro High School. On Sept. 3, 1966, she married Herbert Fitzgerald at Truro. Sharon was a life-time resident of the Truro area. She also was a member of the Jolly Fu Club and the Congregational United Church of Christ in Truro.

She was preceded in death by her father, stepfather, father-in-law; and one son in infancy.

She is survived by her husband of Truro; one son, Alan (wife Terri) of Norwalk; her mother, Bea Dutton of Osceola; one brother, Bill Dutton (wife Linda) of Peru; two brothers-in-law, Larry Fitzgerald (wife Sharon) of Chandler, Ariz., and Richard Fitzgerald of Woodburn; mother-in-law, Maxine Fitzgerald of Woodburn; one grandson; four nieces; and three nephews.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family. Kale Funeral Home of Truro was in charge of the arrangements.

SHARON FITZGERALD

Sharon Lee Fitzgerald daughter of Frank Lee Oberender and Helen Bea Blackford Oberender, was born April 23, 1944, near St. Marys and died June 4, 1998, at Des Moines General Hospital in Des Moines. She was 54.

She was educated in the Interstate 35 school system at Truro and graduated from there in 1962.

She married Herbert Fitzgerald on Sept. 3, 1966, at the United Methodist Church in Truro. The couple became the parents of two children.

A lifetime resident of the Truro area. Mrs. Fitzgerald was a homemaker. She was a member of the Jolly Fu Club and was their treasurer for several years. Mrs. Fitzgerald was a member of the congregational United Church of Christ in Truro. She served as chairwoman of the funeral dinner committee.

She enjoyed applique quilting and spent many pleasurable hours at this hobby.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1944; stepfather, Lawrence Dutton in 1967; a son Adam Lee in infancy on Aug. 13, 1975, and her father-in-law, Arthur Fitzgerald in 1992.

She is survived by her husband, Herbert Fitzgerald of Truro; a son Alan Fitzgerald and his wife, Terri Fitzgerald, of Norwalk; a grandson, Daniel; mother, Helen “Bea” Dutton of Osceola; a brother, Bill Dutton and his wife, Linda Dutton, of Peru; two brothers-in-law, Larry Fitzgerald and his wife, Sharon Fitzgerald, of Chandler, Ariz. and Richard Fitzgerald of Woodburn; mother-in-law, Maxine Fitzgerald of Woodburn; four nieces; three nephews; several uncles, aunts and other relatives and a host of friends.

Services for Mrs. Fitzgerald were June 6 at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Truro, the Rev. Richard Harbart of the church officiating. Organist Pennie Gonseth accompanied Bret Smith as he sang Amazing Grace and How Great Thou Art.

Casket bearers were Rex Evison, Paul Nelson, Gene Snyder, Dwaine Welker, David Nelson, Mark Blackford and Larry Norlin. Interment was in Field Cemetery in Clarke County.

Arrangements were by Kale Funeral Homes of Osceola and Truro.
