Claire Finney, Waterloo

Claire D. Finney, 82, of Waterloo, died Aug. 28, 2005 at his home.

Funeral services were held Thursday Sept 1, at Immanuel Presbyterian Church. Burial was at Waterloo Cemetery with military rites performed by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31.

Claire Finney was born May 3, 1923 in Madison County to George H. and Irma O. (Fenimore) Finney. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1940 and later from Capital City Community College in Des Moines. On May 24, 1947 he married Doris J. Johnson in Kansas City, Kan. Claire was a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service for more than 29 years, retiring in 1985. He also was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Willard.

His is survived by his wife Doris of Waterloo; two sons, Dr. Phillip D. Finney of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Dr. Robert E. Finney of Shoreline, Wash.; two daughters, Cheryl Wilson of Indianola and Jacqueline Lekar of Waterloo; and 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Locke Funeral Home in Waterloo.
