John Fink, Illinois

John Fink, 69, died of cancer Dec. 10, 1995 at Evanston Hospital in Illinois. Services were Dec. 13 at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home in Illinois.

He was born in Farmington, Ill., the son of a Presbyterian minister. His father was minister of the Presbyterian in Winterset during the late 1930s. He had served in the Navy for two years during World War II. After receiving a master's degree in English from the University of Illinois, he began working as a teaching assistant at the University of Wisconsin. He then began his news career by joining Chicago's City News Bureau in 1951. His career progressed until he became editor of the Chicago Tribune Magazine in 1963 until the mid-1970s. He had published three mystery novels in recent years and had just turned his fourth into the publisher.

Surviving relatives include two daughters, Sara Reilly and Alison; one son, Joel Fink; one sister; and two grandchildren.
