Irene Fickes, St. Charles

Irene Imogene Fickes, 66, of St. Charles died May 25, 2005 at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Private family services were held with burial at St. Charles Cemetery.

Irene Fickes was born July 24, 1938, in Des Moines to William H. and Alice (Patton) Sears. She attended school in St. Charles until her senior year; then graduated from St. Mary's High School. On March 24, 1957, she married Robert E. Fickes in Kansas City, Mo. Irene was co-owner of Fickes Lumber in St. Charles, operating the business for the first four years by herself. Sha also was a school bus driver for the Interstate 35 School District for over 20 years. She lived the majority of her life in the St. Charles area.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Marda Murphy.

She is survived by two sons, Clyde Fickes of St. Charles and John Fickes of Truro; two daughters, Mona Fickes of Des Moines and Marda Fickes of Plattsmouth, Neb.; a brother, Lyle Sears of El Cajon, Calif.; a sister, Lois Smull of Des Moines; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Charles Library. Arrangements were handled by Kale Funeral Home in Osceola.
