April 16, 2003Ruth Miriam Fenimore, 92, died of congestive heart failure April 10, 2003 in Tucson, Ariz., at the home of her daughter.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 17 at the Peru United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dennis Shepherd and Robert Cummings officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, April 16) at Kale Funeral Home in Truro, with the family present from 7-8:30 p.m. Burial will be at Peru Cemetery.
Ruth Fenimore was born June 18, 1910 in Clarinda to David and Lottie M. (Godby) Abbott. She received her early education in Clarinda, graduating from Clarinda High School and Clarinda Community College. She also attended Drake University in Des Moines. On June 29, 1935, she married Clair Ellsworth Fenimore in Des Moines. They resided at their Scott Township farm until 1997, Ruth taught for many years, retiring from Interstate 35 Community School District in 1973. She was a long-time member of the Peru United Methodist Church and the Scott Township Community Circle. Following her husband's death in 1997, she moved to Tucson where she was active in events at the Fairview Manor retirement facility.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Greta McCunn.
She is survived by a daughter, Janet Gaspari of Tucson; two son, Bruce Fenimore of Springfield, Ill., and Charles L. Fenimore of Mesa, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
