Claude Uverton Boyd
Claude Uverton Boyd, the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Boyd, was born December 15, 1873, at Lima, Indiana, and died February 24, 1931, near Stuart, Iowa.
In the fall of 1881 Mr. Boyd came to Madison county with his parents who settled here. The rest of his life was spent in this vicinity with the exception of a short time in Des Moines and ten years in Adair county.
On December 15, 1897 Mr. Boyd was married to Myrtle Ruth, and to this union was born six children: Raymond L. Boyd, Mrs. Jessie Dunn, Ida, Lois, Loren and Clair. These with the wife survive to mourn the loss of a kind and loving father and husband.
In addition to those already mentioned who are left behind, is one sister, Mrs. Ida Cornick, of Des Moines, three brothers, Burt Boyd, of Larned, Kansas, Frank and Fred Boyd, of Stuart. Another brother, Harry Boyd, preceded him in death, passing away in 1907, and four grandchildren.
Mr. Boyd was a farmer, which work he carried on until some fourteen years ago when his health failed him, since that time he has been a patient sufferer.
In the winter of 1898 Mr. Boyd became a follower of Jesus Christ, joining the Baptist church here, and has since then lived a faithful, consistent Christian life.
He was a kind and loving father and husband, a good neighbor and friend, and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Services were held in his memory from the Baptist church Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, and were in charge of the pastor Rev. John T. Hall and Rev. H. L. Olmstead, pastor of the Church of Christ. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
