DYERSVILLE. Iowa - Connie Marie Trenkamp, 57, of Earlham, formerly of Dyersville, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at the Community Care Center, Stuart, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sun-day at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where a rosary will be recited at 4 p.m.

She was born on March 5, 1945, in Dexter, the daughter of Duane and Jeanne (Raibikis) Hopkins.

She graduated from Earlham High School in 1963.

She married Wilfred Trenkamp on Oct. 4, 1970 in Monticello, Iowa. They farmed in the Dyersville area, where they raised two sons, Tim and Ted.

Connie started her career in journalism. Over the years, Connie worked at the newspapers in Toledo, Anamosa, Monticello and Dyersville. She was the director at the Dyersville Area Chamber of Commerce where she had the opportunity to work with the cast of "Field of Dreams." She then managed The Toy Farmer Store, and up until her illness she worked for the local radio station, KDST, in Dyersville.

Connie was involved in state and local tourism boards. Connie played a major role in working for the rights of the hearing impaired.

Surviving are her sons, Tim, of Waterloo, and Ted, of Madison, Wis.; her mother, Jeanne Hopkins, of Earlham; two sisters, Carol Eisenbraun, of Kansas City, Mo., and Nancy Miller, of Ames; three brothers, Ed, Chris and John Hopkins, all of Earlham, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, father and a sister, Kaye.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Community Care Center, Stuart, Iowa.

Connie Marie Trenkamp, 57, died July 10, 2002, at the Community Care Center in Stuart.

A funeral mass was held Monday, July 15, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with Father Edward Petty officiating. Burial was at St. Francis Cemetery.

Connie Trenkamp was born March 5, 1945, to Duane and Jeanne Hopkins of Dexter. She graduated from Earlham High School in 1963. On Oct. 4, 1970, she married Wilfred Trenkamp. they had farmed in the Dyersville area. Connie started her carrer in journalism and, over the years, had worked at newspapers in Toledo, Anamosa, Monticello and Dyersville.
