BERTHA EDWARDS DIED WEDNESDAY

Macksburg Resident Most of Life, Was 72 Years Of Age

Mrs. Bertha Edwards, a long-time resident of the Macksburg community, died Wednesday, May 3, at the home of her daughter in West Des Moines. She was 72 years of age.

Mrs. Edwards was the former Bertha Maggie Platt, daughter of Louis and Mary Platt. She was born in Madison county Jan. 13, 1889. Her life was spent near Macksburg, except for a short time in Kansas and 12 years in Canada.

On Nov. 21, 1909, she was married to Joshua J. Edwards. They were parents of seven children. Her husband and two of the children preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Macksburg Methodist church.

Surviving are three sons and two daughters, Forrest Edwards of Carnduff, Saskatchewan, Canada, Gail L. Edwards of Winterset, Victor Edwards of Macksburg, Mrs. Esther Lauer of Creston and Mrs. Lola Porter of West Des Moines. She also leaves a brother, Roy Platt of Winterset; 10 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Macksburg Methodist church, in charge of the Rev. Donald D. Frank. Burial was made in Moon cemetery.
