Emma Harriett Schleiffarth, 93, of Earlham died July 9, 2002, in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 12, at Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham with the Rev. Linda Burnett officiating. Burial was at Earlham Cemetery.

Emma Schleiffarth was born June 3, 1909, to Ben and Esther Nelson of Belmond. Following her high school graduation, she taught country school until her marriage to Arthur Schleiffarth on Nov. 14, 1928. They farmed in Wright County and later moved to Earlham, where her husband ran a Chevy garage. Following her husband's death in 1952, Emma worked in Des Moines as a housekeeper. She later worked for Sears in the alterations department until her retirement at age 65.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, a sister and a grandson.

She is survived by a son, Eugene R. Schleiffarth (wife Karen) of Dallas Center; two daughters, Dorothy Spowart (husband Bill) of Humboldt and Pat Hoy (husband Howard) of Redfield; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
