LENNA EASTER DIED SUNDAY

Lenna Easter of Winterset, who had retired several years ago after 30 years as an employee of the U.S. government in Washington, D.C. died Sunday, March 23 at Memorial hospital here. She was 88 years of age.

Miss Easter was born in Madison county July 18, 1880, the oldest in a family of 10 children born to Josiah and Emma Ford Easter. Her childhood was spent in Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas, with the family traveling by covered wagon. They were in Oklahoma for the opening of the Rosebud reservation, after which they returned to Iowa, settling on a farm in Jackson township.

She attended Iowa State Teachers college in Cedar Falls, and taught school in Iowa for 20 years before going with the U.S. Veteran's Administration in Washington, D.C., in 1917. She continued there until her retirement in 1947.

She was a member of the West Star Methodist church here, and the Foundry Methodist church in Washington.

She is survived by two brothers, Frank and William F. Easter of Winterset; and two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Benjamin of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Earl Dodson of Chevy Chase, Maryland.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Collins Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. E. K. Burham, pastor of the First United Methodist church of Winterset. Burial was made in the Stringtown cemetery.
