1979Des Moines Rites For John Easter
John Byron Easter of LeGrand, Ia., formerly of Madison County, died on Monday, July 23 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 64. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 26, at Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines. Burial was at Hopkins Grove Cemetery near Polk City with Rev. Stephen Main of LeGrand officiating.
Born on July 14, 1915 in the West Star neighborhood west of Winterset, he was the son of Frank and Emma Easter. He graduated from Truro High School in 1933 and on June 20, 1949 was married to Lorena Newbrough at Winterset.
Most of their married life they were engaged in the retail food business, except for a time when they lived in Polk City where Mr. Easter was employed by Polk County Maintenance. He was also Polk City chief of police and later the constable in that area. He also lived in Minburn for 10 years before moving to Le Grand where he established the Le Grand Cafe and Grocery.
Surviving are his wife Lorena; two sons, Jim of Maui, Hawaii, and John of Ankeny; a brother, Robert of Des Moines; four sisters, Alice Anderson of Arlington, Va., Gladys Nabors of Redmond, Wash., Ruth Spencer of Chula Vista, Calif. and Jean Swift of Urbandale and a grandchild
