Funeral services were held Tuesday for Wilma Clarine Downs, 89, of St. Charles, who died May 22 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Burial was in St. Charles Cemetery. The Kale Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Wilma Clarine Downs was born in Norwalk December 3, 1903, to Charles E. and Clara (Ashworth) Kinnaird. Following graduation from the St. Charles High School in 1922, Wilma married Carl F. Downs. A homemaker and lifetime resident of St. Charles, Wilma was active in the St. Charles Parish church choir, W.S.C.S., the Farm Bureau, garden club, rural mail carrier's auxiliary, and both the St. Charles Alumni Committee and the Old Settler's Committee.
Wilma Clarine Downs was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Joy Bell Scivner; two brothers, Theral and Everett Kinnaird and two sisters, Evelene Downs and Bonita Onstot.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Downs and wife Bonnie and Larry Downs and wife Doris, all of St. Charles; a daughter, Mary Ann Sumner of Des Moines; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Memorials may be made to the St. Charles Parish Church.
