Carl Forest Downs of St. Charles was born June 2, 1901 and died at the Madison County Memorial Hospital August 23rd.
He was born at St. Charles, the son of Frank Downs and Zella Sankey Downs and was educated in the St. Charles schools. He was married December 12, 1923 to Wilma Kinnard at St. Charles, he was a farmer and served for 30 years as a full time and part time rural carrier. Mr. Downs was a charter member of the St. Charles Lion's Club, having a 31 year perfect attendance record.
He is survived by his wife Wilma of St. Charles; a daughter Mary Sumner of Des Moines; two sons, Charles Downs and Larry Downs of St. Charles; eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren; three brothers, Dwight and Don, both of St. Charles and Rex of Boxholm; two sisters, Mary Crawford of St. Charles and Florence Eichner of Booneville. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Joy Belle Scrivner, and a brother, Carl Downs.
Funeral services will be this Thursday morning at 10:a.m. at the United Methodist Church in St. Charles, with Dr. Paul Hann officiating. Burial will be in the St. Charles Cemetery.
