Mildred Downing, Winterset

Mildred Viola Downing, 82, of Winterset, died March 29, 1996 at the Winterset Care Center South. Funeral services were April 2, at the Link Funeral Home in Stuart. The Rev. Bobby Dickerson officiated the services and burial was at the Morrisburg Cemetery in Guthrie County.

She was born June 21, 1913 in Guthrie Center to Henry Earl and Dessie Zada (Pyle) Vandevanter. She married Marvin Downing on Sept. 24, 1932 in Bethany, Mo. She was a receptionist for the Redfield Hospital for 12 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Winterset.

Surviving relatives include her husband; one daughter, Joyce Hay of Winterset; three sisters, Zada Kessler of Panora, Julia Ann Millhollin of Panora and Madonna Riesgaard of Exira; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
