Harold Eugene Witt, 74, a former Earlham resident, died of emphysema April 6, 2005, at Winterset Care Center North.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. John’s Catholic Church in rural Adel with Father Al Sherbo officiating. Burial was at Earlham Cemetery with military rites performed by Earlham American Legion Post 158.
Harold Witt was born Sept. 8, 1930, to Ernest and Nellie (Cornelison) Witt of Redfield. He resided in Adel until graduating from eighth grade. He then moved with his parents to Mapleton where he worked as a farmer before enlisting in the Army in 1948. He was called to active duty during the Korean War, serving with the 323rd Engr. LE Company. On March 3, 1962, he married Rosalie Rychnovsky. They lived in Van Meter for 14 years and DeSoto for three. In 1989, they moved to Earlham, where he resided until moving to the care center in January of this year. Harold was employed by the state of Iowa, working as a custodian for the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation for 18 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 158 of Earlham.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
He is survived by two sons, Doug Witt of Indianola and Darin Witt of Earlham; two daughters, Denise Cox and Darla Miller, both of Earlham; and two grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter, Earlham and Redfield.
