Ferne L. Witt, a long-time Macksburg resident who moved to San Francisco in 1967, died a St. Francis Hospital in San Francisco on Thursday, Oct. 1, 1981. She was 80 years old.
Born May 19, 1901 in Union county, she was the daughter of William and Elizabeth Lynn Porter Hower.
On May 7, 1926, she married Ray Witt in Creston, Iowa. Mr. Witt died in 1963.
She was a housewife and also taught in rural schools and in Macksburg. She was a member of the National Retired Teacher Association, Orient Eastern Star Chapter No. 317 and the United Methodist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents and husband, Ray. Survivors include a daughter, Betty Bradford of San Francisco; a sister, Bernice Hower, also of San Francisco; and a brother of Creston.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Collins Funeral Home, Rev. Katherine Wood officiating. Burial was at Moon Cemetery.
