Alvin Alexander Duff died Thursday, October 15th, at Livingstone, Montana, after an extended illness. Mr. Duff was for many years a hardware salesman and moved a few months ago to Livingstone. The funeral services were held at the home of his sister, Mrs. George Pratt, on West Court avenue, October 19th, at 2 o’clock, conducted by Reverend John T. Hall. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
Mr. Duff was the son of Samuel Wallace and Sarah Jane Duff. He was born and raised in Madison county, and was 56 years of age at the time of his death. He attended the Winterset schools. Because of ill health he went to the west when quite young and has made his home there since then.

Alvin Alexander Duff, son of Samuel Wallace and Sarah Jane McDonald Duff was born in Madison county, Iowa, March 8, 1875 and departed this life at Livingston, Montana, October 15, 1931, aged 56 years, 7 months and 6 days.
In early life for reasons of health he chose the west as his home, going to Montana in the spring of 1898, where he had since lived.
He leaves to mourn his passing two sisters, Lena D. Pratt of Winterset and Mary J. Howell, of Ontario, California. He was especially fond of children and to these little friends was always known as “uncle Duff.”
The funeral services were at the home of his sister, Mrs. Pratt Monday afternoon, October 19, 1931. Burial was in the family plot in the Winterset cemetery.

Alvin A. Duff, 56, former Winterset man and member of one of Madison’s pioneer families, died October 15 at Livingston, Montana.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the home of his sister, Mrs. George M. Pratt, conducted by the Rev. john T. Hall. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
Alvin Alexander Duff was the son of Samuel Wallace and Sarah Jane McDonald Duff and was born on the old Duff homestead just north of the present county farm March 9, 1875. His father died when he was a year and a half old. He was educated in the Winterset schools and was a clerk in Koser Bros. store several years.
On account of his health he went to Montana in the spring of 1898 where he has since lived. He was connected many years with a large mercantile firm, only recently severing his connection with it.
Mr. Duff was unmarried. His two sisters, Mrs. Pratt and Mrs. Mary Howell of Ontario, California, are his only close relatives.
