Retired Farmer Had Lived in Winterset Since 1946
Herbert A. Donaldson, a well-known resident of Madison county for most of his life, died Thursday, Nov. 23, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. He was 89 years of age.
Mr. Donaldson was a native of Marshall county, Illinois, where he was born April 22, 1872, a son of William and Sarah Huffman Donaldson. He came to Madison county as a small boy, and as a young man moved to Montana, where he spent 20 years riding the range. In 1909 he returned to Madison county and engaged in farming near Pitzer until 1946, when he retired and moved into Winterset.
He was married Dec. 22, 1909 to Florence Niblo. She preceded him in death in 1919; and in March 9, 1924, he was married to Mamie Finney. Her death occurred on Sept. 24 of this year.
He is survived by a step-son Fred L. Niblo of Winterset; a step-daughter, Mrs. Paul Harrell of Des Moines; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday from the Collins Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. John E. Fink, pastor of the First United Presbyterian church in Winterset. Burial was made in the Penn Center cemetery.
