Cleo Hazel (Strauser) Lorenze, 83, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Services were held Jan. 8 at Earlham Church of Christ, with burial at the Greenfield Cemetery in Greenfield.

Cleo Lorenze was born Aug. 29, 1917 to Fred and Eulah (Foster) Strauser in Adair County. On Nov. 6, 1937 she married August (Gus) William Lorenze in Grant City, Mo. In 1941 they moved to the Earlham vicinity where they farmed until their retirement in 1979.

She was a great cook and loved to share her talent with neighbors and friends, with the ill or for farm hands working in the fields.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gus; three brothers, Harlan, Harold and Carl; and one sister, Marcella.

She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Lola Strauser of Creston, Doris Strauser of Stuart; other relatives and friends.
