Esther L. Compton, 98, died Oct. 5, 2001, in Grand Rapids, Mich.

A memorial service was held at the Hanish Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ruth McCarty officiating. Graveside services were held at the Earlham Cemetery in Earlham on Oct. 12 with Rev. Linda Burnett officiating.

Esther Compton was born in Earlham and graduated from Iowa State Teachers College. She taught and practiced physical therapy in Iowa, Cleveland, Ohio, Lansing, Mich. and Grand Rapids, Mich. She belonged to many professional organizations including the American Physical Therapy Association, Registry of the American Board of Physical Therapy Technicians, Michigan Education Association, International Council for Exceptional Children. She was a member of Altrusa Club of Grand Rapids and volunteered in area hospitals.

She is survived by a sister, Alice, of Pilgrim Manor.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Pilgrim Manor Foundation.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Zaagman Memorial Chapel North in Grand Rapids, and locally by Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham.
