2001Lyle Dean Dawson, 64, of Earlham died March 30, 2001, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 3, in the Waukee High School auditorium with the Revs. Alberta Ervin and Rex Piercy officiating. Burial was held today (Wednesday, April 4) at 1 p.m. at Lakeview Garden Cemetery in Spirit Lake.
Dean Dawson was born Aug. 23, 1936, in Fort Dodge to Lyle William and Elva (West) Dawson. He grew up in Spencer, graduating from Spencer High School in 1954. He attended the University of Northern Iowa where he lettered in football and attained a bachelor of science degree in 1958. On June 8, 1958, he married Rosalyn McClellan in Clarence. They moved to Earlham in the fall of 1958 where they both began their teaching careers. Dean was a teacher and coach in the Earlham School District until he became a salesman for Travelers Insurance. Later he was a representative for school fund-raising programs. He returned to teaching in 1990 in the Waukee School District.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalyn, of Earlham; two daughters, DeAnn Filkins (husband Donovan) of Earlham and Susan Hope (husband Michael) of Waukee; a brother, Doug Dawson (wife Pat) of Waukee; a sister, Mary Kiger (husband Conrad) of Grinnell; and four grandchildren.
