Bobby Derrickson, Earlham

Bobby Lee Derrickson, 55, of Earlham, died June 28, 2004, in Des Moines as a result of a construction accident.

Funeral services were held Thursday July 1 at the United Methodist Church in Earlham with Pastor Charles Thompson and Pastor Alberta Ervin officiating. Burial with a military graveside service by the Earlham American Legion Post 158 was at Earlham Cemetery.

Bobby Derrickson was born Sept. 25, 1948 in Earlham to Charles and Orpha (Passick) Derrickson. He graduated from Earlham High School in 1968. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1969 and is a Veteran of the Vietnam War. Bob married Charlotte Wigton in Omaha, Neb., in Jan. of 1971. He was a member of the Earlham Methodist Church, the Earlham Fire Department for 30 years, South Central 9-1-1 Board, Madison County EMS Management Board, instructor for the Fire Service Training Bureau in Ames, Earlham American Legion Post No. 158, and the Earlham City Council. Bob was employed for several years with the maintenance department for the City of Earlham, and since 2001 was employed as an inspector for the Iowa Department of Transportation.

He is survived by his wife; five daughters, Shannon Payne, Shelly Boyle and Bobbi Derrickson, all of Earlham, Kelly Orr of Winterset, and Jennifer Smith of Rancho Cucamongo, Calif.; mother, Orpha VanAlstine of Winterset; father, Charles Derrickson of Grand Island, Neb.; sister, Barbara Clayton of Earlham; brother, Larry Derrickson of Dugway, Utah; half sister, Kerri Wetovick of Wood River, Neb.; and five grandchildren.
