Gladys Ione Parkison, 85, of Van Meter died of a heart attack April 23, 2000, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 27, at the Earlham United Methodist Church with the Rev. Alberta Ervin officiating. Burial was at Penn Center Cemetery of rural Earlham.

Gladys Parkison was born April 28, 1914, to Charles and Millie (Patterson) Cox of Penn Township, Madison County. She attended Penn Township School No. 8, graduating from Dexter High School. She was employed in a jewelry factory in New York City and also had worked as a telephone operator in New Jersey.

On March 11, 1947, she married Willard Parkison in Winterset. She retired from Hy-Vee Food Stores in 1999 as a food marketing specialist. Gladys was a member of the Earlham United Methodist Church and was active with the United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and a son-in-law.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Cher J. Brunk of Colfax; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
