Harley Curnes Dies In Texas

Harley Curnes of Winterset, well-known retired farmer, died last Friday, February 9 at Weslaco, Texas where he and Mrs. Curnes had been spending the winter. He was 74 years of age.

Mr. Curnes was born in Clarke County November 16, 1898, a son of Fred and Anna Valine Curnes. He moved to Madison County in 1927 and farmed in Lincoln Township until 1970 when he retired and moved into Winterset.

He was a member of the First Christian Church here.

Mr. Curnes was married at Denison on September 19, 1920 to Bessie Christensen, who survives him.

He also leaves two sons, Russell Curnes of Winterset and Wayne Curnes of Des Moines; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two brothers, Bernard Curnes of Fall City, Nebraska and Audrey Curnes of Suffolk, Virginia; and a sister, Mrs. Hazel Hill of Boynton Beach, Florida.

Funeral services were held this Tuesday from the First Christian Church in Winterset, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Eldon E. Jandebeur. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.
