Violet Cunningham, St. Charles

Violet Goldie Cunningham, 86, of St. Charles, died of cancer July 4, 1997 at her daughter's residence in Des Moines. Funeral services are to be held today, Wednesday, July 9 at 10 a.m. at the St. Charles Parish Hall with the Rev. Jim Wertz officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Charles Cemetery.

She was born in Des Moines on October 16, 1910 to Albert Wilson and Sara Ellen (Whittaker) Reynolds. On June 7, 1926 she married Dwight Daniel Cunningham in West Des Moines. She lived in St. Charles since 1949, and was employed as a clerk/technician for the state of Iowa. She was a member of the Garden Club and Farm Bureau, and was a 4-H leader and Sunday school teacher. She also belonged to the St. Charles Parish Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son; one daughter; three brothers and two sisters.

Surviving relatives include two daughters, Marilyn Bittner and husband Bill of Des Moines, Violet Carolyn Huth and husband Barry of Chandler, Ariz.; one son, Thomas Dwight Cunningham and wife Neva of St. Charles; one sister, Jeanne Rogers of Madrid; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
