Chauncey H. Dorsey was born in Schuyler county, Illinois, October 6, 1842 and passed away at the home of his son, E. O. Dorsey near Macksburg September 11, 1931, at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 15 days.
His boyhood and young manhood were spent in Illinois and after the death of his father he came with mother, brother and sister to Madison county, Iowa.
April 29th, 1874, he married Rebecca Cain whose death occurred July 14, 1901. After Mrs. Dorsey’s death he made his home with his son. In 1920 he moved to Missouri, with his son living there five years and four years in Kansas. At his request they returned to Iowa 3 years ago.
When a young man he united with the Methodist church of which he was a member at his death.
He was an earnest Christian worker during all his active years and as he grew older, was unable to work for many years but he retained his mental facilities and was anxious to help all about him. He was agreeable and loveable unto the end.
He leaves besides his son two grand children E. E. Dorsey and Mrs. Rolla Eyerly, two sisters, Mrs. Kate Cassell of Hill City, Kansas, and Mrs. George Callison of Opportunity, Washington, and a host of friends.
Rev. A. R. Weed conducted the services in the Macksburg M. E. church Sunday afternoon, September 13, and the interment was in the Wight cemetery.
