Mary Ann Reed
Mary A., daughter of David and Mary Kale Bradshaw, was born in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, on January 17, 1850 and passed away at her home in Truro, Iowa, on June 30, 1931, being at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 13 days, and the last of a family of two sons and one daughter.
She was one of the few remaining pioneers of Ohio township, having emigrated from Ohio with her parents in 1854.
Upon their arrival here they purchased land two miles north of the present site of Truro and began the building up of a comfortable home which has remained in the family to the present time, and where she lived until the year 1902, when she, with her daughter, Lula, moved to Truro, locating in the present home in 1907.
On November 15, 1866, she was united in marriage with William Evans Reed; and to them were born three children, Mrs. M. B. Reed, Lula and D. F., all of Truro.
She was a charter member of the old Ohio M. E. church and upon its disbandment, was active in helping to make possible the erection of the first M. E. church in Truro of which she was also a charter member.
In its recent replacement of a new building, there was no more earnest supporter than she, though for the past ten years, physical infirmities had prevented her regular attendance at church services.
A more rapid decline covering a period of the past four weeks, brought to a close a life that for seventy-seven years has been instrumental in building up in this community a commonwealth of which we are justly proud.
She felt herself fortunate in the continued companionship of her children and grandchildren to the third generation and her home was ever one of unusual hospitality.
During her years of semi-invalidism, aside from the kindness of all her family she has especially received unselfish devotion from the daughter, Lula, who has ever remained in the home her constant companion.
Aside from her three children, she is also survived by two grandsons, Fred of Truro, and Wendell of Des Moines, and by three great grandsons, Fred Jr., Herbert and Harry of Truro, and by other relatives and a legion of friends.
